The Southbury Women's Club is currently accepting applications from graduating seniors who reside in Southbury for Trade/Apprenticeship and Traditional College/University Scholarships. 


 *Note: The Southbury Women's Club offers another scholarship for graduating seniors at Pomperaug High School who have or had an IEP or 504 plan during their time in high school. This scholarship recipient is selected by the Pomperaug High School guidance counselors. Interested students should contact their Pomperaug High School guidance counselor directly to apply.  


The deadline for submission to SWC scholarships is post marked by Friday, April 3, 2020.


Details for the Trade/Apprenticeship and Traditional College/University Scholarships are given below.


Award amounts: $1,000.00


Number of awards given:  Three (3)

  • One award will be given to a student who resides in Southbury and is applying to a trade, technical college, or an apprenticeship program. 
  • Two awards will be given to students who reside in Southbury, are graduating seniors at Pomperaug High School, and are applying to a two-four year traditional college or university.


Student residency requirement:  Must be currently living in Southbury


Financial need requirement?  No, financial need information is NOT wanted nor requested.


Transcript required?  Yes


Who will make the selection of the recipient?  Southbury Women’s Club


Other Eligibility Factors

  • Must have demonstrated commitment to community service
  •  Trade/Apprenticeship Scholarship: must be graduating and moving on to a trade school, technical college, or an apprenticeship-type program
  • Traditional College/University Scholarship: must be graduating from Pomperaug High School and moving on to a two-four year traditional college or university


Essay Requirement:  Please answer the following essay prompts:  

  • In what way have you served your community? 
  • Why did you choose this avenue of community service? 
  • How did it affect you and others?


Will the award be made directly to the student or the college?  College/School or Program


Deadline for application/essay submission: Post marked by Friday, April 3, 2020

  • Current School Name and Address
  • Intended Field of Study
  • School Name and Address for the school/college/program that you plan to attend next year
  • Please also inform us in the application if you have been accepted by the school/college/program for which you have applied

When will a decision be made?  A decision will be made by May 10, 2020.  Guidance Counseling offices will be notified of the decision by May 11th.  Recipients will not be contacted directly.  Announcement of awards will be at the discretion of the school.
