The Southbury Women’s Club is currently accepting scholarship applications from graduating high school seniors who live in Southbury.
The deadline for submission for the SWC Scholarship is emailed or postmarked by Thursday, March 27, 2025.
There are two offerings:
- A general scholarship in any field of study for graduating high school seniors who are planning to pursue a College/University program in Fall 2025 or Spring 2026 or a Trade school or Apprenticeship program.
- The Meghan V. Dowling Memorial Scholarship - open to students pursuing a college degree in childhood education (early childhood, elementary, middle or high school level) or other child/youth focused professions (school social worker, speech pathologist, occupational therapist, preschool director, librarian, etc).
Award amount: $1,000.00
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be a Southbury resident.
- Must be interested in a career in education or other child/youth focused professions. (Megan V. Dowling scholarship only)
- Must have demonstrated commitment to community service.
- Must be a graduating high school student with plans to move on to a College/University in Fall 2025 or Spring 2026 or a Career institute/apprenticeship program.
Essay Requirement
Please submit an essay following one of the prompts below.
General Scholarship essay prompt:
In what way have you served your community and why did you choose this avenue? How did it affect you and others?
Meghan V. Dowling Memorial scholarship prompt:
- What area of study do you plan on pursuing after graduation from region 15?
- What are your career goals within the field?
- Why have you chosen a career path working with children/youth?
- How will you contribute to the lives of others through this profession?
- Do you have any community service experience working with children or youth you would like to highlight?
Students at Pomperaug High School are encouraged to submit their application through the PHS guidance office process. Non-PHS students should email the following to info@southburywomensclub.org:
- Name
- Address
- Anticipated school you will attend
- Copy of your High School course Transcript
- A listing of any work, volunteer, extra-curricular activities, and/or sports in which you have participated - indicate during which years of high school these activities occurred.
- Do NOT include any financial information.
